Where is the cheapest place to get buprenorphine for my cat?

I can't afford $77 three times a month. I've had my cat for 17 years and I love her dearly and want to give her whatever she needs. She's basically on palative care for a tumor. Is there a cheaper place to get buprenorphine, or is there another drug that works similarly that I can ask my vet about

  1. Ccrider says:

Contact the feline rescues in your area and ask which vets they work with. It's your best shot.

  2. Suzan says:

Best price on pet meds (requires a written prescription from your vet) is from Drs Foster and Smith. It is a licensed vet pharmacy out of WI. Go to their website. Type in drs foster and smith into yahoo.
My pets med was 33 dollars from vet. From Smith and foster it is only 21 dollars with free shipping to my home!

  3. Rcamaroc says:

That's so sad.I hope your vet comes up with an alternative. In the meantime, can you perhaps cut back on the dosage in order to stretch it out

  4. Aphrodite says:

You really have a problem. Vets really like buprenorphine (Buprenex), Just a tiny bit on the gums, and one has relief.

The problem is that there is a tremendous shortage. Vets got the overflow from human drug use, but several manufacturers ran into manufacturing problems:

  5. Alex says:

There are very few options for pain relief in cats. Buprenorphine is a narcotic, and can only be obtained as a prescription from a vet. It can't even be ordered via mail order due to that. Talk to the vet about getting it in a larger quantity, and while it will cost more initially, it will save you money in the long run. There are a few other opiates like morphine and fenotyl that may be a less-cost alternative – see what the vet can suggest.
