How much diphenhydramine to sedate my dog?

My dog Layla absolutely HATES getting her nails cut. It is literally a boxing match to try and do it without any help. I have read that diphenhydramine effectively sedates dogs like it does humans. How much should I give Layla to sedate her

  1. X-man says:

you need to ask your vet this.he knows your dogs weight and how much to give her.

  2. Daybooker says:

Train your dog to allow you to cut her nails. It's really not that hard. just go step by step and reward good behavior. Drugs are not a substitute for training.

Sedation is NOT necessary and could be dangerous. Only a vet should ever sedate an animal.

  3. Daybooker says:

'Julie' is right.you have created this fear in your dog and it is easy to train your dog to accept nail clipping without resorting to sedation especially DIY sedation

  4. Cprueser says:

DO NOT give any medication without first consulting your veterinarian. Relying on the dosing advice of strangers online could prove dangerous to your dog.

  5. Chrish says:

The vet clinic that will cut her nails will know what and how much to give her.

  6. Inquisitor says:

Take her to the vet and have the vet prescribe you some ACE.

  7. Bgrayless says:

1-2 mg per pound of body weight.

  8. Yijiso says:

    2 spoonfulls
